Got up this morning to help Melanie get in her last long run before the race. The goal was to hit the 12 mile mark. Looking at the weather I was a little concerned. It was raining outside and we would be fighting 20 mile an hour winds. Not a good combination when someone is running a milestone. But Melanie was game to give it a go. The first few miles was into the wind but as we turned and headed toward the foothills it got better. The next few miles were with the wind almost at our backs which always helps. I was packing water and energy blocks which I finally convinced Melanie to take one in around mile 9. A bit late in the game but I think she was worried it would upset her stomache. We hit our neighborhood at just over 11 miles. I figured Melanie would want to call it good but she wanted to hit 12. We finished running around our block. A nice solid effort. I think she is ready for her first half marathon.
