Running Accomplishments:

I have been running for the last 10+ years. I have run 6 marathons, 3 ultra marathon, 1 relay ultra marathon and numerous local shorter races. 

Short-Term Running Goals:

I would like to be able to keep logging in miles consistently and plan on running two or three marathons a year. I would also love to run the Redwoods (Avenue of the Giants Marathon.)

Long-Term Running Goals:

Run the Boston Marathon and while I am in Boston take in a Red sox game.Maybe run some more ultra's.Run a 2:50 marathon. Ryan and I are kicking around the idea of running a marathon in every state in the next few years. You got to have some goals.

Personal:

I have lived in Eastern Idaho for most of my life. I currently live in Iona with my wife and two daughters who are 3 and 1.

Treadmill miles in the basement again. I woke up after sleeping a few hours and thought I had better get my run in before the day got away from me. Working nights and then logging miles in on the treadmill is proving to be hard for me. Hope this cold snap ends soon.

Ran outside today around the Green belt and Freeman park. Warmer than it has been but still was colder than I would have liked. Picked up a few extra miles running around the park.

Ran on the treadmill in my basement. Six miles into the run the treadmill sputtered and gave it up. I guess I am going to have to call a technician. Good thing it is under warranty.  I like to think it quit because I was running so fast.

Nice day to run outside. The roads were still pretty wet so I ran around the Green belt, Freeman Park, Snake River Landing loop a couple of times. Felt really good until the last 2 miles were I began to fade. Lack of nutrition and fluids but not to bad. Pretty pleased with how I felt with the effort.

Nice to have some days off of work so I can run outside. I definetly need some outside runs to get me over this hump I'm feeling. I felt really good on this run. The roads were clear just a little wet. The temp was perfect. Added some hill miles in toward the end and the effort felt good. Good run today.

Ran outside today in that wet snow storm we had. Felt really good until the last 2 miles or so. By then I was so wet from the snow I just wanted to finish the run and take a hot shower. Felt good to get out after missing two days due to a work meeting and an all day plumbing adventure at my brothers house.

Twelve hard miles after part of the day was spent framing a neighbors basement. The hard part was I came home from working nights. So the short story is I am going on little sleep. A perfect scenario to get sick or an injury. Legs felt pretty good but the body overall felt tired. Took a nap when I got home to take the edge off. I think tomorrow will be spent getting a little sleep.

Also the roads were pretty sloppy in places. So ready for spring running.

Ran today after helping a friend change a part on his truck. I hadn't slept yet as I am still on nights. Half way through the run I started to feel the effects of no sleep. Not a bad day to run outside. A bit of a breeze but the temp was pretty good. Last night of night shifts so things should start getting easier.

Started off freezing on this run and just about turned around. After a couple of miles I warmed up and was pretty comfortable the rest of the run. I felt really good and the traffic was super light making the run more enjoyable. I am really getting the itch to run a race. I guess I am going to have to start thinking spring marathons.

I came home from working nights and took a two hour nap before I headed out on my run. I wanted to beat the forcasted late afternoon showers. The humidity and wind made it feel alot colder then what the temp said it was. Started off feeling pretty good but about eight miles in I felt off and struggled with my pace and effort. An off day of running and new shoes are needed.

Nice afternoon to run today. The temp felt warm with little wind when I started. The last 2-3 miles the wind had picked up. Ran in a brand new pair of shoes which always makes you feel good. I'm excited to try the shoes out for a few runs.

I wasn't going to run today. Sundays are usually my rest days; but the weather was awesome when I got home from church. I decided to get a run in to enjoy the weather this evening and to cover myself in case tomorrow is as busy at work as I expect it to be. I felt great. I don't know if it was because I wasn't battling the wind like I was yesterday or what. Holding the pace felt easy and the run was over in no time. Finished right at dark.

Ran a new route today so I took my Garmin to keep track of the distance. Felt good but it was windy and cooler than it has been. 39 degrees and 15 mph wind. Average pace 6:22. Felt pretty good with the effort. Miles into the wind were 10 to 15 seconds slower. Always fun to run a different route.

Nice afternoon to run. There was the slightest breeze and the temp was cooler but the sun was out. I set out after I warmed up at just faster than marathon pace. I was able to hold the pace really well even climbing the few hills on the route I was running. The last mile to mile and half I felt a bit sluggish. I think it was do to not really eating lunch.

What do you consider an easy mile pace? And do you use those as like a warm up? Or just thrown in the middle or end? I probably need to start tracking these better but don't really know how to start pushing or anything. Any advice?

Ran this morning. Temp was good but 15 mph wind. I am starting to get tired of battling the wind. Felt really good fitness wise. Ended up trading my new shoes for a different pair. I guess I am going to stick with my Hoka's. I have been super impressed with them and how well they work with my ankle injury.

Another run at work this morning. I'm glad I went earlier as the wind picked up later in the afternoon. Felt really good and the temp was perfect. Starting to feel a bit tight in the legs.

Nice job on the two 14 milers, you are going to be so strong at RONR. Weather has been perfect but has changed today (Wed) and when running into the wind felt like running up Sunnyside Hill.

12 miles this afternoon on a windy day. Felt really strong having taken yesterday off of running due to work being busy. 

Ran 6 miles around the river tonight with the Bill's Bike and Run Group trying out the new Hoka shoes. Not a bad evening to run since the wind died down.

The family and I traveled down to Salt Lake on Friday to pick up our race packets and plan some logistics with the family of where to watch the race. Both of our parents came down to watch and help with the girls since Melanie and I were both running. After picking up our packets at the Salt Palace and looking at a couple of the booths we headed to our hotel where we were staying. Our parents each had gotten rooms across the hall from us so it was fun to take the girls swimming and soak in the hot tub a little. We didn't want to over do it in the hot tub but it did seem to loosen up some of the knots in my muscles. I never seem to do where after I taper and take a few days off. 

Race morning we both got up after a restless night and put on our running gear to head to the start line. We ended up finding a nice spot to park and were able to get on to the tram with very little waiting. This is one of the things I had been stressing about because so many of the reviews in years passed had said how difficult it was. As we made it to the starting line I said good bye to Melanie (she was running the half) and headed to my time corral. I finished warming up and after a brief starting line ceremony the race kicked off. This race is hard for me to describe. The weather was perfect, the organization of this race was great with a lot of great volunteers that allowed it to happen but the course was a difficult one. We had a bunch of hills that I didn't plan on when I looked over the course elevation map. There was also a bunch of meandering through areas to make up the distance. Around mile 9 the course splits for the half and the full marathoners. I struggled a bit to keep my pace with the hills but overall I felt good. Hydration and nutrition worked well for me this race. 

The last couple of miles the half and the full marathoners course come together to the finish line. I struggled a bit running through the crowd of runners to the finish line. I was happy with my race overall. I ran this race not expecting a fast course. I wanted to see where I was at in my training. I did find some areas of improvement. 

This is  a great race for the family and is organized very well just not a great course if you are really wanting a fast one. 

Splits: 6:22, 6:34, 6:18, 6:24, 6:17 6:32, 6:31, 6:39, 6:29, 6:44, 6:23, 6:35, 6:36, 6:38, 6:44, 6:37, 6:27, 6:34, 6:43, 6:49, 6:50, 6:50, 6:46, 6:54, 7:06 and last 1.2 miles at 7:15.  Average pace was 6:43.

What an outstanding race you ran on a (agreeably) difficult course. I'd like to see what you could do on something like Utah Vally one year. Not too pounding and surprisingly similar times to Boston runners.

You are a great example of someone who knows what they want and goes after it. You're consistent in your training and know what it takes to get the job done. Fantastic work! Also, Completly jealous of your incredible time! No doubt you could bring that down even more. Amazing.

Decided to get my long run in today since the weather looks like it is changing in the next few days. I ran up Lincoln to the Bone Road and over it until it tied into the end of Sunnyside road. A lot of climbing. Ended up going through all of my water faster then I expected. My wife ended up bringing me water and I cut the run a bit short.
