I went into this marathon with the goal of running under three hours but in the days leading up to the race I began feeling like I was coming down with something. My two girls had been sick so it was only a matter of time. I woke up Saturday morning feeling better but my legs felt fatigued. Not a good sign before the race had even started. I caught the bus and rode up to the canyon starting line. As soon as I climbed off of the bus I realized I had under dressed. It was cold. There were a lot of fires going to help people stay warm but there was piles of people around them. As the race started a group of runners took off and I fell into pace with them. Looking down at my watch I realized they were running under 6 minute miles a lot faster then I wanted to do. I slowed down and started running my own race. After a few miles I started to find my sync and the miles started to fall away. I finished the first half around 1:27 and was still feeling strong. I didn't really start to fade until mile 21.  Luckily my sister in law Tara was waiting at mile 22 and ran the last few miles with me and pushed me. I really don't know where I would have ended up if she hadn't. The last mile it was everything I had to keep moving my legs but I was so close to my goal. I crossed the finish line and realized I had did it, I had just run a marathon in under three hours! A short time later we found out I had taken second place overall I was blown away. When I had looked at previous year results I figured I might be able to run in the top ten if I was lucky.

My splits: 6:40, 6:43, 6:40, 6:37, 6:36, 6:41, 6:41, 6:36, 6:35, 6:33, 6:38, 6:36, 6:38, 6:41, 6:48, 6:48, 6:53, 6:57, 6:59, 7:16, 7:22, 7:24, 7:20, 7:26, 7:13, 6:56. The Garmin watch came through for me.

Nice evening to run. Spent the day doing yard work so a run outsidewas a nice break. A little wind up on Foothill road. Still a little sore on my left quad muscle toward the outside. I feel like I am recovering well from the marathon.

Windy with thunderstorms that moved in right after I got started. I guess thats what you get when you run in the evening. Felt really good after I got the muscles warmed up.

Perfect temp for an evening run. Still battling the wind and looks like I will be for the next week. Felt really good. Will be running tomorrow helping pace the last 6 miles of the Ogden Marathon so I didn't want to trash my legs. It will be a quick trip down and back.

Ran down to the Ogden Marathon to run the last six miles with my sister in law Tara. It rained and rained. As I ran up the canyon I was amazed at how many people were still smiling even though they were sopping wet. Found Tara around mile 20. Tara was fighting an injury but was still in it. We were able to motor down the canyon and into Ogden. She finished strong. That looked like a brutal marathon where everyone had to earn it. Congrats to everyone who ran it.

A little colder outside than I thought but it was nice to get to go for a run at work. Warmed up and ran out to the highway and back. A bit of head wind on the way back that made me work to keep on pace. Not a bad run felt really strong. Mizuno Waves (blue.)

Woke up from sleeping a few hours when I got home from work and seen that it looked pretty nice outside. Decided to run what I call pick ups. One mile at marathon pace and one 20 to 30 seconds slower. Did that over the run and finished with the last mile about 15 seconds faster then marathon pace. ( Brooks Ravenna 4's)

I'm struggling to call these easy miles. I felt like I really earned them. It was super cold and windy. I wanted to call it quits as soon as I started.

Ran up to the mouth of Pass Creek by Mackey. We have been camping and it was perfect weather for a run. I was running on a dirt road that was packed well so it was a great surface to run on. Probably the fastest I've ever run 12 miles. Had a bunch of miles at 6 or just under. I caught a cattle guard just right on the return trip. Right ankle is a little sore. Going to give it a day or two so it won't become a injury. Awesome to see some new country.
